This unit introduces phonology, which is the study, science, analysis, and classification of the physical properties of sounds. It expounds upon the areas of stress, intonation, and articulation as well as providing the International Phonetic Alphabet. It is helpful to devote time to pronunciation, stress, and intonation practice during a lesson. Techniques for teaching these areas to students are given, such as using gestures or the board to provide a visual aid. There's no hard rule for including pronunciation work during a lesson; each teacher must decide what is best based on their particular circumstances.
