Getting to know the culture your students are from and finding out what their interests are seems very important to maintaining motivation in the classroom this unit emphasized these important issues all teachers face. The advantages and disadvantages of authentic versus created materials and the use of a textbook series. Even though textbooks can become dull and predictive they can be a great supplement for a framework for interesting opportunities to be developed from students interests. They also provide a syllabus and grade level work which can be great for the new teacher. I'm saving my restaurant menus and brochures from now on.
