This unit covers the principal teaching resources and aids available to the teacher. These include the use of a whiteboard, visual aids, worksheets, course books, video and audio-visual aids, dictionaries, and other resources, such as photocopying, over-head projectors and computers. Visual aids can reduce teacher talk time (TTT), add variety and interest, and have been shown to aid memory and stimulate discussion. The information provided in the unit lists how the various aids can be obtained or made, and how to make sure the use of the aids will enhance the learning process. Helpful advice is provided (on the video) about ensuring equipment malfunction is kept to a minimum. The use and difference between monolingual and bilingual dictionaries is explained, with uses and warnings concerning the use of these resources. Resource books usually consisted of three types: the students book; the workbook; and the teachers resource book. The workbook was ideal for activities in the ?study phase? whilst the teachers resource book could be used in the ?activate stage? of a lesson.
