This unit focused on the productive skills of speaking and writing. It stressed the importance of generating student interest in the topic or activity to give students a need or desire to communicate. It also gave examples of writing and speaking based lessons and activities that could be used for these lessons. I thought the careful description of accuracy vs fluency based activities was especially important. I realized that in my own lessons at my work, I mostly incorporate fluency activities, especially ones for speaking. This is partly because their other courses focus so much on accuracy that I want to give my students a chance to practice fluency. So I think I want to make my fluency activities more effective by thinking carefully about the purpose of the activity and trying to generate interest in the topic or activity before we begin.
