In this unit we watched two videos of the same teacher and students engaged in the same lesson and lesson plan, but the style of instruction was markedly different. In the first lesson the teacher is clearly impatient and in a bad mood, he makes little effort to engage students as people, and speaks quickly and mumbles. This attitude and behavior causes student participation to decrease. In the second lesson the teacher engages in the same lesson plan, but attends to the students needs by learning their names, giving examples, speaking slowly and clearly, encouraging participation by smiling and giving accolades when students answer or ask questions, and generally being a friendly and communicative person. This change in attitude makes a significant difference to the students, who appear to have both enjoyed and learned more from the second lesson.
