This unit reviewed many different types of tests that can be taken during the course of an English learner's education. These include internal tests and external tests. Internal tests are used inside a language school or class and aid the teacher in assessing and measuring the level of their students. Placement tests allow the student to be placed in a classroom with students similar to their own level of english proficiency. Progress tests are used frequently throughout the course to constantly measure the retention of english and the deficiencies the class might have. Diagnostic tests are similar to placement tests but often have more detail and depth and are taken at the beginning of the course. Practice tests are usually used for external exams and help the student prepare for future english proficiency tests.
