This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit summarizes a variety of different TEFL methods, some more popular than others, with a particular focus on the Engage, Study, Activate method. I found this method the most interesting and practical. It is very similar to the method I utilize in my instruction. This method follows Bloom's taxonomy of learning and seems like the most natural fit for an ESL classroom. It is extremely important to engage student interest before presenting new material. I find the boomerang lesson format the most interesting way to implement the Engage, Study, Activate method, although I can see how this may be too advanced for beginners. This unit also provides standards for providing feedback on formative and summative assessments without overcorrecting student errors. There is a notable difference between student mistakes, which are unintentional and usually corrected without assistance, and errors, which are deeply ingrained and do require teacher intervention.
