This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Unit 14 introduces us to the use of coursebooks and materials. I feel that the definition of authentic materials was explained a little better for me in this unit. I believe the reason why we need to use them are very important; they are real situational materials for being surrounded in another culture, and students will gain confidence once they understand them. Created materials, which I believe are unauthentic materials are very important, in that teachers design their materials to the level and interest of their students. I imagine this would be very engaging for both teacher and student and would produce a successful lesson.
There are many pros and cons when it comes to the coursebook. What I take from all of this is to make sure the content is appropriate for the level and also to mix things up between coursebooks and created materials in order to keep a good and productive balance.
