This unit on testing and evaluation has helped me in three areas. 1. Testing for the placement of students in the proper level course. 2. Testing to ascertain the progress or lack of acquisition of the language by the students. 3. Understanding that some students may be motivated to take English courses in order to prepare to a standardized external examination. With regard to number two, it is worthwhile to note that that progress testing may show that more material may be added to the course due to high success or it may indicate that some material needs to be reviewed again and that other, later, material may need to be eliminated. With regard to number three, I now realize that I should take the time to research what is involved in these external standardized exams, so I that I may adjust my skills and/or materials for my classwork.
