This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this lesson I learned about how the teacher can interact with the class in terms of gestures, eye contact, position in the room, disciplining and more. For instance, I learned that when giving instructions or a language lesson it is most effective to stand in front of the class, but while the students are working in pairs, groups or individually, monitoring the students should be distant and non-interrupting. I learned that the way the students are seated can change the classroom's atmosphere, such as being more intimate if sat in a circle, versus better for lectures when the students are seated in rows. I also learned that when disciplining a students, a teacher must stay calm and focus on the behavior, not the student, and act immediately so the problem does not worsen; if the punishment is handled in another way, the students can often lose respect for or rapport with the teacher.
