This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
During this lesson, we discussed the teaching of productive skills (writing and speaking). We began by giving reasons why students communicate with each other then moved on to the differences between accuracy and fluency. We then covered different activities for practising each discipline and stressed that the goals for each discipline are different (i.e with fluency accuracy is less important and the general atmosphere should feel more casual to illicit student interaction, whereas accuracy drills should be controlled by the teacher to ensure minimal errors). Afterwards we talked about the importance of writing skills (things like handwriting, punctuation and spelling) and ended the unit with some sample games to inspire a fun learning environment.
