Unit 14 was essentially about different types of teaching materials that are usually available to educators. The unit covered Authentic Material, which is almost anything with words on it that was not intended for teaching. It is a real life example of the language in action and has definite value in the classroom. We read about Created Materials, such as fun activities like Crosswords, Flash Cards, Scripted Role- Play, Picture Stories, and other such worksheets, and their use as supplemental educational activities. More than anything this unit was about Course Books ; if and when to use them, what to look for in a set of course books if you get to choose them, how to use them in class, etc. Though many language classes use course books as the basis of the class it is very important for the teacher to Adapt the material to the class and integrate authentic material and created material into the syllabus for a well-rounded and balanced educational experience.
