Reading and listening is not just about eyes and ears but also heavily relies on pre-existent knowledge. Reading will present fewer problems for students than listening as they will be able to read it over and over again and maybe finally deduce the language. However, with listening the students may only hear the sentence once or twice so their ability to scan,skim, and deduce information from context will have to be more advanced. Two ways to approach difficult language in an activity are; pre-teaching the difficult vocabulary and sentence structures and careful selection of texts. It is however important for students to be comfortable reading texts without knowing every single word to help build confidence in their own receptive skills.
