There are pros and cons of using course books. Course books are made for a general audience. When using course books in the classroom teachers should change materials to meet the needs of their students. Choosing authentic materials that their classroom can directly relate to, by doing so the students will have a better understanding and hopefully more interest and interaction throughout the class.
Course books are good to use because they have a tried and true basis of learning. Student expect to have course books, course books provide suitable levels for different stages of learning.
Without the use of course books it would be too time consuming for a teacher to prepare for each and every class. Adjust where the teacher thinks it needs to be adjusted.
