This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit highlights the differences, importance, and challenges relating to teaching speaking and writing skills in English. While teaching speaking skills appears to be an exciting and engaging teaching opportunity, writing skills seems somewhat daunting. The different stages: engage, study, and activate offer many ways to stimulate interest and excitement when it comes to speaking skills. It is my believe that teaching writing accuracy would be geared toward more advanced students that have a specific desire to acquire that skill. Lower level students would naturally require more controlled activities in order to build accuracy and fluency. Logically, it seems that writing skills would take more teaching time. Perhaps, I would offer free after school practice writing sessions to students who were truly invested. It is apparent that both fluency and accuracy are critical in the Receptive skills stages in order to properly transition into Production stage learning.
