Course books, authentic materials and created materials are all useful resources in the classroom. It is up to the teacher's discretion which is most useful for that particular lesson. There are advantages and disadvantages for using any one of them. For example, course books are great because they have a guideline and a syllabus. However, depending on the quality of the course book it can be predictable and outdated for the students. Authentic materials such as, magazines and newspaper articles are more up to date and can me more interesting for the students. It can even build confidence in real world activities. Created materials such as flash cards and games are useful as well because they can be tailored to the students level of English. All three can be used and by doing so, allows the teacher maintain creativity and new teaching ideas.
