The unit taught me about pronunciation and phonology. The unit gave insight in intonation and gave practical ideas how to practice this with our students. Putting stress on a word in a sentence can completely change the meaning of the sentence. The phonemic alphabet shows us how a word is pronounced, what doesn't necessarily match the way it's spelled. And the unit gave insight in the place of articulation and manner of articulation.
I never used or studied the phonemic alphabet before. It is very useful when you are learning a language, and you are not sure how to pronounce a word. Since the alphabet is used internationally, it can also be helpful when learning another new language.
