Unit 14 described the use of coursebooks and lesson materials, demonstrating the differences between authentic materials and created materials. Authentic being, films, songs, poems. The main focal point of authentic materials is they are real and therefore more interesting and motivating, students gain confidence when they understand them, they can be geared to the interests of a particular group of students. Created materials are more so replace supplementation of the text within the course book. Common created are cross words, role-play cards, flash card, gap-fill activities, pictures stories. Of course coursebooks come with advantages and disadvantages. Some advantages are the teachers book comes with many good ideas, the material has been tried and tested. it provides a syllabus which is graded to a level suitable for the students. Some course book disadvantages, it doesn't always fit the needs of all the students, course books dictate what is being taught to name a few.
