Lesson plan preparation is essential particularly for new teachers as it can serve as a guide for the general direction of the lesson, and allows the teacher to anticipate and think of solutions for problems that may arise. However, lesson plans are not rigid scripts that teachers have to adhere to. Rather, it should be a plan for the organized delivery of the lesson, with room to easily adapt if changes are necessary. Among other things, the lesson plan should clearly state the learner objectives, i.e., what the students should be able to do at the end of the lesson. It should also outline the procedures to achieve these objectives and the teaching aids that will be required for the activities. With effective lesson planning, the teacher can ensure that language lessons include a varied mix of activities that engages all students in the lesson. Experienced teachers can anticipate the amount of content needed for the allotted class time and build goals for the students accordingly.
