This unit discussed present tenses: present simple, present perfect, present continuous, and present perfect continuous. While I use these tenses in everyday life, I was not familiar with the names of the different tenses. Therefore, I was not aware of the possible difficulties in teaching the present tenses. This unit helped in heightening my awareness and gave me a starting template on how to go about teaching the students and getting around the difficulties. I really enjoyed that the unit provided teaching activities to include in the lesson plan to make the learning a bit more engaging.This unit focused on phonology and pronunciation of English words. There were three areas of focus, stress, rhythm and intonation. I feel that I have developed a deeper understanding of the importance of stress and intonation in one?s speech and how that affects the meaning of a sentence. And because inability to pronounce words well can be a deterrent to students speaking a language confidently, I have learned that it needs as much attention as other aspects of spoken language. I also learned how certain sounds are produced and the techniques one can employ to teach pronunciation better.
