This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
In this module, I learned that there are several teaching methods that a teacher can utilise. Each method has their drawbacks and advantages. I learned that students should have a chance to produce language in a relaxed environment, and that a certain amount of input from the teacher is required. I learned that TEFL teachers utilise the Engage, Study and Activate approach in their lesson plans. This plan can follow the straight arrow, boomerang or patchwork patter. The only requirement is that it starts with an engage stage and ends with an activate stage. I learned that feedback and correction is important, but should be done with sensitivity. I also learned that there is a difference between mistakes and errors, and that errors should only be corrected by the teacher themselves when strictly necessary. Excessive correction at every stage of the lesson can put the learners off. The student should have the chance to correct the error themselves when possible.
