This unit broke down different ways that seating arrangements, body language and teacher versus student talk time can all contribute to the general learning environment and attitude students will feel in a classroom. It also covered the pros and cons of different seating arrangements and when it is appropriate to use eye contact. I learned that eye contact can be used in many different ways to signal things to students and that it is important to use this and other gestures appropriately so students do not become confused or the wrong message is not conveyed. I also learned about the most effective ways to maintain discipline in the classroom and that there are some things that may be out of my control as far as reasons for why students may act out. This helped teach me ways that I can build rapport with my students right away so that maintaining discipline will be less of an issue.
