This unit provided invaluable insight into the varying roles of both teacher and student. Special mention was made of the specific needs of adult learners and how we can organise our teaching groups to best facilitate learning. The unit also covered the language skills required by our students and what teaching method has actually proved to be most efficient at achieving this level of knowledge, whether that be on a 'one to one' basis or in a mixed level group of business clients - the ESA method. There are, however, certain positive aspects to some of the other teaching methodologies covered, such as the concentration on verbal drilling and the use of mimicry in language heard using the Audio Lingualism method. When teaching young children, for example, aural and oral stimulation is vital as they mainly listen and repeat in order to pick up a second language.
