This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit covers the main theories and or methods that are prevalent in todays' classrooms. I found that there were several interesting methods, that I had never encountered before. For example, Suggestopaedia at first glance this method seems a little ridiculous, but in retrospect I can see that there are some merits to this way of teaching. This method could really help students that are shy and lack confidence, because of its laid back approach to introducing material. In my own classroom, I prefer either the PPP method or the ESA. I usually use both of these forms in my own classes. It was also discussed that specific activities belong in certain parts of a lesson. I agree no all activities can be done at the beginning of a lesson when the students have not yet learned the appropriate vocabulary or grammar to go along with it. I felt the section on correcting students was very helpful for new teachers. This section breaks down the process of correction which is important so as not to break the confidence of your students. If too much correction the students will be afraid to experiment with the language; however no correction will lead to bad habits among the students learning from each other. Overall, I truly enjoyed the section on methods of teaching and learned so many more options of approaching things in my classroom.
