This unit was very helpful in the aspect of building the students confidence. I find with large texts and with many auditory excercises it can be quite easy for students to get discouraged. The way the teacher presents the information and more importantly the atmosphere the teacher creates can really assist with creating an environment where the students are free to fail. This allows for greater growth in receptive skills , because if we can take away the initial intimidation of the large text, or fast speaking, we can build a strong foundation for the language. Another successful factor I think is providing comprehension tasks to promote understanding. Finding the appropriate material is another key factor to engage students, provide an achievable challenge, and grow understanding. I enjoyed this unit because I found it very practical and helpful not only in planning lessons but also as a reminder to build students confidence and provide some challenges they can complete.
