This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Classes either can be a new group or an existing group. First lesson will typically aim on establishing rapport, to find out about students, their needs and inspirations, and their English language levels individually. To do that we can use questionnaire/survey, 'Tell us about' activities, pass the ball game, and needs analysis. Typical warmer ideas would be hangman, pictionary, tongue twisters and memory games. For students that are at varying levels you can either use different materials or same materials with different task, doing nothing will be another option as well as pairing weaker students with stronger ones. For large classes, more worksheets, groupworks and assigning group leaders would be smart choices to deal with that situation.
