This unit covers Conditionals; as well as, direct and indirect speech. Conditionals consist of if/when etc. + possibilities in various tenses. The zero cond. = if/when + present tense, present tense. 1st cond. = if + present simple, will. 2nd cond. = if + past simple, would/etc. + base form. 3rd cond. = if + past perfect, would/etc. + have + past participle. And finally the Mixed cond. = if + past perfect, would + base form. Now direct speech has to do with conversation that is being had presently and directly between people. Indirect speech has to do with reported information (i.e. he said... she said... that sort of thing). The tense will also change in a reported sentence from that which was used in the direct sentence it is referencing.
