This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit focused on classroom management. Classroom management is necessary to ensure all students are learning and engaged. This unit explained ways in which we can use our voices, gestures and eye contact to help engage students while keeping control of the class. I learned that teaching English is similar to teaching dance! Often we need to start out with more control and discipline but once that is established, we can relax and respond to the needs of the class - depending on class dynamics. We can adjust seating and how the group works together depending on the needs of the class and the personalities within it. Control of the class, and ensuring it is enjoyable is of utmost importance and this unit reviewed ways in which we can establish and maintain that. This unit also taught taught us about problem behaviour and how to prevent and respond to it. It is always a good reminder that as teachers, we need to be fair and kind.
