The productive skills, writing and speaking. Teaching how to speak I feel has a lot to do with getting the students to feel comfortable in the classroom with talking to the other students as well as the teacher. I only have experience with Japan and that can be quite a challange to just get the students to talk at all. Writing on the other hand doesnt give the students as much exposure and reduce the factor of not daring to talk out loud and having conversations. That said I feel that both writing and speaking are very important in order to get the students to activate and feel motivated when learning English.
