In Unit 14 the topics of Coursebooks and Lesson materials were introduced. The short unit includes topics such as Authentic materials; Created materials; Coursebooks advantages, and disadvantages. A large portion of the unit are sample materials.
In this unit I learned that authentic materials can provide learners a boost in confidence and sense of accomplishment from understanding real world materials. Created materials on the other hand can be customised for the learners and add variety.
In a more formal teaching scenario I think coursebooks are necessary, as it provides a syllabus with a balance of grammar, vocabulary, and skills work. However teachers should not be afraid to use other materials to supplement and suit the needs of their students.
