First lessons the teacher should never start teaching from the book. At first class should all be about building rapport, finding out about students? needs, and finding out about the English level of each student in the class. Teaching existing groups is great because the students already know each other and are more comfortable with one another. For new groups the teacher must establish rapport between the students. Questionnaires and pass the ball are a few ways to build student rapport. Class warmers are also important to get students warmed up, motivated, and using English. Tongue twisters and memory games are a great way. Larger classes give a teacher the problem of trying to involve everyone in class and give equal opportunity to participate. Pair and group work are great way.
