This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
This unit is about two productive skills: speaking and writing. They are different in many ways but are used for the same purpose ? to communicate. We communicate because of a need or a desire. In many ways, writing is the most neglected and difficult skill. It requires a greater degree of accuracy. Speaking, on the other hand, requires a greater degree of fluency. Accuracy and fluency has equal importance. They both come into different stages of a lesson. Accuracy activities, which are in the study phase, concentrate on the correct usage of the language. Fluency activities, which are in the activate phase, concentrate on allowing the students to be creative with language.
This unit gives information on different activities in the classroom, as well as guidelines that we can follow to have an engaging and successful lesson. Speaking and writing has many similarities. Many of the factors in the speaking lesson must be considered and incorporated in writing lesson but there also some differences; grammar, vocabulary, spelling, handwriting, layout and punctuation. I?ve learnt that in order for writing or speaking lesson to be successful, the teacher must first create the need and desire in the students to communicate. If the students are interested and well-motivated, they are more likely to want to participate in the lesson.
