This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
The unit focused on situations or issues that may occur when teaching. These situations included: first lessons for new and old groups, warmers for getting students engaged in English, multiple English levels in one class, large classes, preventing using native language in the class, and difficulties with listening texts. While each issue has a list of approaches that can be used to combat it in the classroom, I found that the common problem that arises is boredom of the students. Whether it be a student that is more advanced or a student who is uncomfortable with speaking English, boredom will cause the student to lose focus of the lesson and lessen the experience and learning gained. It is up to the teacher to be able to handle these situations calmly and appropriately by having enough material and encouraging to students to participate in the lesson.
