Although the proper use of eye contact, gesture, voice, and pupils' names is an integral component of classroom management, I found the advice on student organization to be especially helpful. Although whole-class groupings and independent work might make it easier to generate a sense of belonging or be more responsive to individual learning needs, these formats might substantially impair language progress by discouraging shy students from participation and limiting opportunities for interaction. This unit presentation gave me useful ideas on how to mitigate the weaknesses of pair and group-work, such as the tendency for students to use their native tongue without enough supervision. This lesson also taught me how to best utilize different seating arrangements, write on the board in an a manner that does not alienate the class, minimize TTT, create a rapport, give clear instructions, and prevent (or manage) disciplinary problems.
