Unit 11 is about teaching receptive skills. The receptive skills are listening and reading, because learners do not need to produce language to do these, they receive and understand it. These skills are sometimes known as passive skills. They can be contrasted with the productive or active skills of speaking and writing. There are two main reasons for reading and listening: for a purpose (helps to achieve goals), for entertainment (pleasurable).
Special skills for reading and listening:
Predictive skills, scanning, skimming, detailed information, deduction from context.
Problem solving: pre teaching vocabulary, careful selection of text. Create interest for better and productive study.
