Conditionals and reported speech are the topics contained in this unit. Conditionals are sentences that include the word ?if? and refer to past, present or future possibilities. There are five different conditional forms and the students may mix up or intermingle various forms. I think a good activity for teaching conditionals is ?chain conditionals,? because it allows the students to improvise and gets everyone involved. The second concept in this unit is reported speech. For example ?Kim said she?s hungry? would change to ?She told me she?s hungry.? This can present problems for students because the verb tense in direct speech changes when using reported speech. One activity that is helpful is ?intermediaries? in which the students role play the ?peace keeper? in certain situations.
