This unit concentrated on the importance of speaking and writing for ESL learners and teachers. I learned that speaking and writing are productive skills and are both equally important. It was stated that writing is \"the most neglected skill in the TEFL world.\" I can see how that is true in that many of the second-language learners that I know, myself included, concentrate more on being able to converse in a foreign language as we anticipate traveling and needing to ask directions, where to eat, what to eat, etc. I also was able to practice completing a class lesson plan by following an ESA route and I believe that preparing the lesson plan is my weakest point. In my current job my lesson plans are already created but since taking this TEFL course I have a better understanding of the purpose of the various activities I complete with my students. I have especially learned the value of saying something 3 times as well as memorizing sight words and being able to spell them.
