This unit discussed the procedure and importance of lesson planning. I learned that the lesson plan is extremely important, not only for the teacher, but for the students as well. Additionally, it is a very useful tool for a substitute, should you not be able to come in to teach on a certain day. The unit stated that the lesson plan should be flexible and more of a guide for keeping the lesson on track. I learned that, in conjunction with the structure of the lesson, the teacher should also have goals for both himself/herself and for the students. This makes sense to me, as it creates an end point to which the lesson can always look. One should also evaluate the effectiveness of the lesson plan, following the actual class, in the interest of professional development.
