In this lesson we learned different helpful methods for maintaining order in the classroom while ensuring that students continue to feel comfortable enough to practice and learn English. We can make the student feel comfortable by using gestures, establishing rapport, and paying attention to their personal interests and quirks. We can maintain our control in the classroom by following our own rules and being consistent, as well as making sure to correct student's behavior, as opposed to the students themselves. The use of simple language and gestures is also important to make sure that the students understand the material, but also to ensure that the amount of time the teacher spends talking is minimized, while student talk time is maximized.
