Unit 13 presents ways to teach pronunciation and phonology using different techniques such as diagrams of the mouth and placement of the teeth, tongue and lips in producing some sounds corresponding to specific letters, tongue twisters, etc., and some rules on where the stresses usually are in words with certain syllables and the different intonation patterns depending on what type of information is being asked or said. For example, for nouns made up of two syllables, the stress is usually on the first syllable; as for intonation, if a person is making a statement, the intonation would be to rise and then fall at the end of the sentence. If a person is making a query, the intonation would be to rise at the end of the question. This unit also presents the International Phonetic Alphabet (IPA), a chart of the different sounds that make up phonemes in the English language.
