Classroom management is one of the most important parts of being a good successful teacher. While a strong understanding of the subject matter is very important, if you cannot successfully manage the class, the amount of knowledge you have means very little. Know how to use things like eye contact, your voice, and hand gestures to have the greatest effect as a teacher. Depending on the activities you have planned for the lesson will determine how you want to set up the seating arrangement. Each arrangement has different pros and cons. Working with the same students day after day will give you insight as to which students work best together if you are going to do pair or group work. It is important not to pair students who do not get along together. Like wise it is not a good idea to pair two of the worst or best students together. having a nice balance in the groups is important. For an activity to be successful good instruction is necessary. Always use the same simple instruction words. Make sure students understand before they start. Maintaining order and discipline in the class will insure that the class goes smoothly. Be aware that all students have lives out side of class that may effect their behavior in class. When students misbehave, maintaining a calm but serious attitude will give you best results. Always adhere to the schools rule and disciplinary actions.
