This unit provided a visual example of the differences between a well taught lesson and a poorly taught lesson attempting to introduce a new grammatical concept (modal auxiliary verbs) using well known objects (animals). While comparing the two videos, it was very clear that the teachers' attitude greatly impacted the way the students responded to the lesson. Small things such as eye contact, mime, smiling, and knowing students' names created an engaging atmosphere of belonging. The teaching methods in the second video were also much more flexible compared to the first and increased student confidence.
