This unit focuses on the different equipment available to teachers and students and how this equipment can be effectively used in the classroom. The unit focuses especially on what is the most common and basic piece of equipment in the classroom - the board. Several good rules to remember are offered such as writing legibly, maintaining good organization and only putting the most important information on the board. Personally, as an ESL instructor in the Los Angeles public school system, I find it often beneficial to have the notes written on the board before the students enter and in some settings to have the students first copy what I have written before I explain the lesson so they may focus on the lesson and not the copying of notes. This also insures the students have a good set of notes from which to study.
