A good textbook is a good start for students' language study. Student will be interested in language study in the first place if they find out the English textbook is attractive. That's why it's so important to choose an appropriate textbook. But if we just follow the textbook to teach, at some point student will find it boring, because a textbook can never be 100% fit for our students' needs. That's why teachers' teaching skill matters so much. A good teacher should be able to vary textbook material according to specific group of students. I think a good teach should first read many textbooks, once they are familiar with the most published textbooks, they will be able to choose a good one and supplement it when it's needed.
