The whole content of this unit was new to me. The first part of it is dedicated to describing the various approaches and methods developed throughout the years to help learners of English effectively and easily acquire the language. The bigger part of this unit explores the ESA method developed by Jeremy Harmer. It consists of three stages - engage, study and activate. Each phase is described separately in terms of purpose and different techniques used to achieve it. Three modifications of the lesson plan are described - straight arrow, boomerang and patchwork lesson flow. The unit ends describing when and how correction should take place.
