I didn't realize that were two specific reasons for reading and listening: for enjoyment/entertainment or for a purpose. Learning about the differences between scanning and skimming readings makes me reflect back on my university days where I would implement those two different reading skills for different reasons.
The lesson plan/example of how to teach a lesson based off of a reading text was very helpful. I liked how the teacher used a song for the engage phase because that is sure to wake up sleepy students and get everyone interested. It would be a break from the norm probably. Attempting the task while slowly targeting trouble words over and over seems effective too, and gives shy students many chances to speak up about not understanding a certain word they may want to understand. Finally, it's great as an example for the activate stage where students can create their own mini biography of a celebrity. They have a perfect example so it lessens the chances of confusion.
