This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
For me, this unit of study has been the most difficult, to date. I was completely unfamiliar with the International Phonemic Alphabet Symbols. So, this was quite a learning curve for me. The terms and their explanations under the Place of Articulation was all quite new to me, too. I don't know if this is revisited in some of the units later on, but I'm not sure I know enough at this point to teach this information. Although, I think the information regarding the physical placement of articulation was interesting, I think that as a new language learner my eyes would glaze over, and I'd feel rather frustrated if my teacher went too deep into this. I have studied Spanish as an immersion student, and I think that, as a student just learning the language, phonological information could easily feel too complex and frustrating. I look forward to new units where, possibly there is more information on effectively teaching phonological/pronunciation lessons.
