This is how our TEFL graduates feel they have gained from their course, and how they plan to put into action what they learned:
Productive skills are speaking and writing. We use them when we have a communicative purpose, are interested in what is being said, want to say or listen to something. In order to build on the productive skills, it?s important to practice ones accuracy and fluency. Accuracy is producing the correct language while fluency is concerned with the effectiveness and flow of the communication. Some students are reluctant to speak but there are techniques to help overcome this such as pair or group-work, careful planning and allow students time to think about what they are going to say. Writing is different from speaking but just as important. Writing is focused on handwriting, spelling, layout and punctuation. I have learned how to make plans for lessons that are focused on speaking and writing and ways to get the class involved through games. Also, I learned that writing is the most neglected skill in the TEFL world.
