This section can a general overview of both the use of various types of tests within and outside of the classroom. It discussed the roles and use of placement, diagnostic, practice, and progress tests in the class. Furthermore, this unit addressed the varied external examinations available to English language learners. It explained what each's overall role was, for example, for students studying business English, for general immigrants who want to work in an English speaking country, etc. I found this unit's explanation of the various external tests to be particularly useful as passing many of these are goals that young students will need to keep in mind as well as older students who are working towards them.
