This unit contained historical theories of language instruction, methods and strategies of instruction, correction theory, and the components and functions of the 3 stages of a lesson plan. Most of my learning occurred around the historical approaches of instruction, and the strategies within each stage. The historical approaches are useful to know, so that we do not utilize overly complicated or ineffective methods, and do not restrict ourselves to one method. The strategies are useful to know simply because they are more tools to add to our \"tool box\". It is helpful to know which strategies should be used at certain times, and which should be avoided, so that we do not confuse or overwhelm our students.
